Intensive Prayer at the Halftime of the Year

If January is a time to detox and face forward, August is an excellent month to look to the harvest.

At the start of August, we have lived through seven months of the year, and we have five months to go. Depending on the year and the holidays, we have about 100 normal working days left in the year.

We’re coming in to the second real push of the year. We’re at the halftime break.

Whether we need to double down on our original goals, or adjust in some way, we need to seed the ground with prayer.

The real beauty of 21 days of intensive prayer is that we're inviting God into the picture.

Instead of just willpower, or gritting our teeth through the practical aspects of leadership training and goal setting, hard work and diligence, here we invite God to help us.

We invite God to speak, to inform, to redirect.

God has a blueprint for our lives. Are we building according to his blueprint?

This is the invitation to you: pray in advance of what you want to see the rest of this year.

Come on!

Day 7: Evening

PURSUE What’s Coming Next

And pray about what that is

As we come to the end of Week One, we pivot from what has passed and turn to what is to come.

For the next two weeks, we’ll explore, in a variety of different ways, what the Lord is speaking to us about his plans for the months to come.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the beautiful New English Translation of Isaiah 11:2: “The Lord’s Spirit will rest on him—a Spirit that gives extraordinary wisdom, a Spirit that provides the ability to execute plans, a Spirit that produces absolute loyalty to the Lord.”

This is what we cry out for, Lord. We need your wisdom as we face forward toward all that you have for us.

Blow out the cobwebs and the distractions. Give us clarity and direction.

In the name of Jesus, amen.

Testimonials

Real insights from real readers.

It's just simply clear and nails it.

Patience Huang

I like the short devotions, little nuggets of information each morning and night. They allowed me to finish reading, close my Kindle, and really meditate and ponder what I just read for a few minutes. Sometimes one or two would be so meaningful to me that I would turn back and re-read the chapter, just to savor it again, like a second serving of chocolate cake at dessert. Highly recommend! I think I will return to it every August to keep the rest of the year on the right track.

I'm loving this so far, and have already had some amazing conversations ... and it's just day 3!

Ross Badgett

I read Day 8 Evening yesterday and it was spot on with what I was hearing from the Lord. It just went into more depth and was SUCH an encouraging word to keep “pursuing“ praise and worship and prayer RATHER than complaining or comparing. And what a great legacy to leave for my children!

Stacey Massey

Times with the Lord have been especially sweet lately. He's giving me a greater hunger for Him and the will to go after it. I think the August fast had a lot to do with it.

Matt Freije

The Pursue book has been so beautiful. And manageable for my stage of life. It has been such a blessing to enjoy and be surprised with golden nuggets of encouragement or instruction daily, and it only takes moments of my time to read. One of my favorites is from page 73: “Oppression can’t stand the presence of joy.”
